Hearing Twice, Not Double Hearing

Is it possible that when one speaks to you once, you are supposed to hear it more than once? Would that have to do with echoing or playing back to yourself what you heard? Yet, this is what God expects from you as a human spirit. When He speaks once, you must hear it twice.

In order to build your faith in God, you need to hear twice from Him. Let’s see how the Bible puts it. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” – Romans 10:17. Note that hearing appears twice in the sentence. It is for a specific reason.

Let’s flip to another Bible verse and see how hearing has been captured. “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God” – Psalm 62:11. God only speaks once, but you must hear it twice, as stated in the introduction here.

This creates confusion in the minds of many believers. How do I hear twice, how do I hear two times, many uninitiated would ask?

But let’s see how you can hear twice, thus actualizing your hearing system.

Put every word that you hear from God into action. The action is equivalent to hearing it twice.

Let me take you to Cairo, Egypt, and give you my personal experience there. In October 2004, I had my first international travel. It was to Egypt to attend a budgeting and financial management conference organized by a Canadian institute – IDRC. Five Ghanaians including myself attended that budgeting meeting which lasted for a week. One of the attendants from Ghana, Mr. Ntiamoah, an experienced chartered accountant working for Sight Savers International, spent a few minutes with me at the bank of the River Nile during one of our free times.

He guided me on how a business plan should be prepared. He reiterated that many chartered accountants lack this skill, and for that matter, he capitalized on this opportunity to provide consultancy services to many companies that even have chartered accountants working with them. Being a newly qualified accountant (I got qualified in December 2003), I listened with rap attention.  That was it.

I returned to Ghana and added a lot of studies in addition to the advice I got from Mr. Ntiamoah. Today, I have traveled to several countries with that skill and provided consultancies both locally and internationally with what I heard once from a senior chartered accountant. I have put it into practice, and this is equivalent to hearing it twice.

There are several such examples I could give in this regard.

What have you heard but you have never put into practice? It could be a business idea from your local church, it could be counseling on your marriage so that your marriage could work better, or it could be advice on how to turn things around on your educational, and personal goals. Whatever it is, you need to move on to put them into practice.

That is equivalent to hearing it twice if you have been able to implement what you have heard.

Don’t just be hearers of the word of God but become the doers of the word (James 1:22).

This is the only way the Kingdom of God would come down to this earth if we hear from God, hear a piece of good advice from those ahead of us, and do accordingly.
