The Purpose of Your Silver Cord

There’s much spoken about the silver cord of human beings, yet much is left to be known about it. Many people think it is left to the secret societies or the lodges to glean. It’s obscurity in the bible, save a mention of it in the books of Ecclesiastes at chapter twelve verse six, makes it little known to the Christian faith.

“The silver cord in metaphysical studies and literature, also known as the sutratma or life thread of the antahkarana, refers to a life-giving linkage from the higher self (atma) down to the physical body. It also refers to an extended synthesis of this thread and a second (the consciousness thread, passing from the soul to the physical body) that connects the physical body to the etheric body, onwards to the astral body and finally to the mental body” – Wikipedia.

The silver cord connects the spirit of man to the body. That is the summary of what could be said. To explain in detail let’s look at the following.

The umbilical cord is the visible cord connecting the unborn child to the mother for the purpose of feeding and revitalization. The umbilical cord is a conduit between the developing embryo or fetus and the placenta. Without the umbilical cord, the embryo, the child wouldn’t survive.

Hidden in this umbilical cord in the developing child is a cord that would enable the ensoulment at a certain stage. In the middle of pregnancy, as has been written several times, the child moves for the first time. The expectant mother experiences movement for the first time of the baby. With this, an ensoulment or an incarnation has taken place. The spirt of the developing child has arrived and taken possession of the fetus.

The point of this connection is the silver cord. This is where the life spark connects to the body in order to keep the human being active for the rest of his/her life on earth.

You could imagine what would happen at death! The spirit would detach itself of the silver cord. Thus the book of Ecclesiastes captured this very excellently: Remember Him (God)—before the silver cord is severed, and the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel is broken at the well (Eccl 12:6).

To keep and preserve this cord, in other words, to keep yourself alive, you must be in tune with the giver of this life. Remember your Creator and thank Him for keeping you alive.

There’s nothing God needs from you other than genuine gratitude and a heart full of thanksgiving.
